Politicians Who Voted “No” On The Clean Energy Bill

OPINION by Dolores M. Bernal, NEWS JUNKIE POST

This opinion piece is dedicated to all the Democrats and Republicans who voted against the American Clean Energy & Security Act at the U.S. House of Representatives on Friday. Not often do news publications list the names of public officials who don’t vote for some of these bills, but here at the NEWS JUNKIE POST we may do this regularly.

The American Clean Energy & Security Act is of 2009 is legislation designed to create clean energy jobs, lower American’s utility bills, cut emissions that harm our environment and our air, give us cleaner water, and penalize polluters. The bill passed the House by a narrow margin; the vote count was 219 to 212. Forty-four of those that voted “no” were Democrats.

Some progressive Democrats, such as Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), voted against the bill because they felt that carbon reduction standards were set too low and they didn’t satisfy his ideological agenda. Republicans just didn’t vote for it because the bill wasn’t crafted by Newt Gingrich or Rush Limbaugh.

Two agencies, the EPA and the Congressional Budget Office examined the bill and found that the benefits of the bill could be enjoyed by ALL Americans for about ¢25 to ¢40 cents more in taxes a day. This sounds like a bargain to me! Many of us don’t mind paying $3 for a cup of coffee or $6 for a combo meal from a fast food chain. I have a male friend who pays $60 to get his hair cut and he barely has any hair! But, there are of course those folks who see taxes as something evil. The Republicans have done a great job framing taxes as something anti-American, when it’s actually the patriotic thing to do. If taxes had been such a bad idea our forefathers would have banned collecting taxes right in the Constitution.

But let’s not get off track, the focus is on this energy bill and the improvements we would see over the years in the quality of our air and how much more efficient our homes and cars are, which bottom line, saves us money!

I can’t fathom why anyone in their right mind would vote against a bill that can save people money and help clean up our air and our water, unless those politicians were bought up by the big industries and corporations. Those types of politicians, which I will list below, get elected to protect the interest of the big polluting companies instead of doing their job which is looking out for the interest of their constituents — the people.

There are other politicians that may not be bought up by big companies necessarily, but they get so caught up in one or two things that are not good enough for them and so instead of appreciating the little improvements that some of this legislation can bring, they decide to block it altogether. Rome wasn’t built in a year, Mr. Kucinich.

Anyone who votes for the politicians listed below when they seek re-election, better think back about today and how little they thought about YOUR health, YOUR pocket, and OUR planet. It’s important that we as voters start making these public officials accountable for how they vote.

  1. name the republicans who voted for the energy bill

    • Via MarkLevin.com – here’s the final list of Republicans who stabbed the country in the back.
The eight who voted for cap and trade are:
      Bono Mack (CA) 202-225-5330
      Castle (DE) 202-225-4165
      Kirk (IL) 202-225-4835
      Lance (NJ) 202-225-5361
      Lobiondo (NJ) 202-225-6572
      McHugh (NY) 202-225-4611
      Reichart (WA) 202-225-7761
      Chris Smith (NJ) 202-225-3765
Let ‘em know how ya feel about it!

  2. HOORAY for those that voted no! This is a costly bill to the taxpayers including the poor. In addition they didn’t read the bill and I bet you didn’t either!

    • We want a list of all those who voted for this tax increase…they all need to be thrown out …Democrates and Republicans!

      • I find alot of Repubs writing their ideas on this issue! And wish to commend the mathmatician who stated that it will cost other than 40 cents daily….He’s really a snow-ball in the desert…. Why do the Repubs still want to be heard after driving us off the cliff these past eight years? They have only torpedoed the middle class…with the past administration. Hell, we do not need a war for our destruction… we already experienced the Republicans!

    • Hooray for Judy!
People who believe the titles of bills accurately state their contents is an idiot.

  3. We need to thank those who voted no. They truly represented their people, not thier party. To think that others voted yes when over 300 pages of the bill had not yet been presented to the House Reps. to view, read, etc. You are correct, Larry, too many people believe the titles of bill accurately state the content.

  4. Congratulations to the 212 who voted no on this piece of garbage based on junk science. I am proud of Travis Childers for using good judgment and not bowing to pressure from the Obama, Pelosi and Gore. Let’s hope the senate hears from constituents and puts an end to this nonsense.

  5. Congrats to Mr. Rooney of Florida for voting against one of the most costly, and socialistic pieces of legislation ever to enter the doors of congress. My sincerest condolences go out to the OTHER nimrods that voted for it… Good luck getting voted back into congress!! LOL… America and Americans can and have been fooled by con-men of the past, but WE CATCH ON QUICK and the back-lash may be more than you expected…. A clean house maybe what’s in order here, see you fellas next election.

  6. Vote -1 Vote +1Take this country back !

What these junk don’t understand , judging from their article , this bill had nothing to do with a cleaner air , water and ect. . It’s all about more and bigger Government , AND MORE MONEY FOR THEM TO PLAY WITH ! All you have to do is look at England , where they already have cap & trade . Their steel ind. is moving to India . Once they got cap & trade on Manufacturers , they moved on to the little people . They now pay a tax on everything they do . AND IT HASN’T DONE A THING REDUSE POLUTION !!!

  7. Vote -1 Vote +1Stephanie Richmond

Thank you Lincoln Davis, Tennessee, for voting NO !

  8. the cbo has drastically underestimated the cost of prior legislation over the years. although the author to this article is correct that anyone would want a bill that promises more jobs, and cleans up our air and earth for only a few cents a day, the reality is that this bill is probably too sweeping, has not been read by most of its opponents and will end up costing every citizen a lot more in taxes and huge increases in other commodities. thumbs up to those that voted against it. please everyone, stop making every issue political.

  9. with regard to the above, i meant to say its “opponents and proponents”. sorry fo the confusion.

  10. I too will take the list of those that voted FOR this grossly expensive bill that no one read please! Can’t wait to get my letters out to all 219 of them. When jobs are finally “created” (by the way, you don’t “save” jobs while you’re losing them and you only have to worry about “saving” them when you aren’t creating any at all) then we can revisit this with a congress who actually READS what it is they are voting on and actually puts his/her constituents ahead of themselves or their party. But even more important than that, we need a GROWING ECONOMY so we actually have money to pay for these bills! But then that’s a concept that at least 219 members of congress, and apparently even our president can’t comprehend. So, THANK YOU to the 212 of you listed above for voting AGAINST this bill and for putting US, the AMERICAN PEOPLE ahead of yourselves and your party. And SHAME ON YOU to the 219 selfish, thoughtless, and apparently “illiterate” congressmen/women.

  11. Bono Mack, R-CA
    Michael N. Castle, R-DE
    Mark Kirk, R-IL
    Leonard Lance, R-NJ
    Frank LoBiondo, R-NJ
    John McHugh, R-NY
    David Reichert, R-WA
    Bobby Scott (R-VA)
John Sullivan (R-Okla.) – did not vote

Listed above are the 8 traders from the republican party. Mr. Sullivan did not vote, for what reason I do not know, He is from Okla. a state which relies on gas & oil industry. The GOP must put their house in order. Every republican with a brain needs to contact the RNC and make sure these traders receive no funds from the RNC and there are conservative canidates that run against these traders in the primary elections. We must rid the party of these moderates.

  12. Good news! This bill will move the remainder of our manufacturing jobs to China and India: we can finally get rid of those dirty industries!

  13. Yeah let’s demonize people that didn’t want politicians reaching into our pockets, sending jobs overseas, and otherwise inflicting more government into the everyday lives of the citizenry. I hope that libtard homeowners that live in some of the cesspools of this country realize that they’ll have to bring their tenements up to snuff or they won’t be able to sell them!

When Green Peace says that a bill is garbage, it has to be garbage. Leave it to the government to do nothing for the environment while charging us all for it! The people that are for this legislation are idiots. How can you vote YES on something you haven’t read much less comprehended?! Boehner kicked this bill’s teeth in yesterday… and still people voted for it. All Republicans that voted yes for this bill should be run out of office. What a disgrace.

  14. Gee,

Amazing how EVERYONE that replied to this article is alligned AGAINST this Bill. Delores Bernal – you really need to get a life. Your grossly out of touch with reality and think like typical Democrats, who would rather send jobs overseas and allow the federal government to GROSSLY intrude in our lives. Delores – wake up please. Take your head out from under the sand. Do you really believe Pelosi “Jobs, Jobs, Jobs, Jobs”? Give me a break. Pelosi, Waxman have bankrupted California and now their doing the same with America. I endorse success….not failure. Anything related to Pelosi, Waxman is doomed for failure. The Feds bankrupted Medi-care, Social Security – what make us think they can run an Energy Program? Complete BS. I’m all for getting the names of the 9 Republicans and running them out of town on a rail. Traitors – that’s exactly what they are – all traitors. But lets continue to run the House in a disfunctional manner by introducing legislation at 3AM – typical democratic tactic. God-forbid we should allow people to actually read the legislation before voting on it. This alone should have forced everyone to vote NO….What a crock. It goes on, and on, and on. I’m so dis-appointed in my Government, I can’t even begin to cover all this disappointments…..and for someone like Delores who has a platform to write – is even more disappointing. Completely disgusted.

  15. whoever wrote this article fell for the bill hook line and sinker. YOU IDIOT. yes,the tax burden right now might be low but do some research and see what it will be down the road. Oh yeah, what about that tax burden that gets passed down on consumer goods?
They made the bill look sweet up front, that is how you sell it. Nobody actually read the bill to see that down the road it is going to bend us over since most Americans can not think ahead. Let me predict the future for you 5 years from now. HUGE loss in jobs when companies move over seas to avoid this tax. Increase cost of goods and services due to higher tax. Nationalization of Business that try to stay in the states since they will not be able to survive. More taxes on the american citizens. No change whatsoever in this make believe Global Warming gimick. Oil prices through the roof. And a government that will still have it’s head up its arse passing more spending bills and junk science bills.

    • Rich, you got the idiot part right! You are the IDIOT, the Clean Air Act was suppose to be this big job killer and wreck havoc on the economy. Wrong! $45 in benefits to the environment and health of Americas for every $1 spend. Go cry wolf to someone that want to listen to your crap!

  16. Exactly Rich, this article was obviously written by a libtard that is enamored of this Congress and this Administration. They’re going to expose the “no” votes! Wow. I guess that’s supposed to frighten Dems into falling back into line? All the morons on this site have done is inform me as to who on the left HAS A CLUE. Lord knows that the “author” of this article is without one… along with the rest of the leftists that are busy sticking it to the rich… but in actuality, screwing themselves rotten.

  17. ANYBODY who believes this will only cost them .40 “…more in taxes a day” need their heads examined and shouldn’t write opinions for News Junkie.

  18. Step back and ask the questions: How does one setup a ruling class in our government, something the founders spoke about and against? How do these people stay in office? What untruths must be stated to the people in what way to get them to believe something that general sense would speak against? The key to power and control is money, partners with vast influence over people & finance & manufacturing & energy and laws that scare people into voting for a group or party that has pushed through laws that control ones personal welbeing against their common sense because economically they are told they is no other way and it will be good for them to receive a $50 check every year for free is they work for the party programs because there are not other companies or programs available. Item, looking into the healthcare bill you will find that the president, Congress, etc. are exempt from the healtcare being proposed. Analysis of this energy [TAX] bill and actual science shows it will do virtually nothing for the environment. The only environment it will help is Government, those in government, those helping government control the people and being rewarded by government control. Item, THERE IS NO GLOBAL PROBLEM WITH CARBON DIOXIDE NOR MAN MADE GLOBAL WARMING, THIS IS A FACT! Review at least one source “The Heritage Foundation”. THIS BILL AND EVERYONE SUPPORTING IT MUST BE REMOVED, NO COMPROMISE! Fact, this bill will tax cow, beef and pig farts. It has the ability to tax or limit the number of children one can have because children breath and create cardon dioxide (which trees need to grow to produce wood and oxigen). Burning a tree, produces energy and what is left is carbon which the earth recycles. Fact, our food cost will double and our food would shortly be comming from other countries who have no such energy bill and they will control the quality and safety. China wants all of Americans need for manufacturing to be in china where it will be less expensive because they will not directly institute such economically limiting laws. Check it out to date, what have they truly done, nothing. Being the major global manufacturer allows other countries to stabalize and strengthen their people, economy and money value. Fact, china did build a plant that produces lots of carbon so they could get subsidies from others to help pay for what is needed to reduce carbon (they are very smart regarding their country and how to use the worlds money, mostly our money). Naturally, building a nonpoluting plant costs much much more, so just pay the cost for a regular old plant and have the world give the money needed to make it efficient!

As a side note I have not really heard any of the politicians state that they are acting on the direct will of the people our country constitution they serve. Their statements only talk about what “they” know and believe is needed. Good or bad, our governing structure was set to do the will of the people not the will of those who think they know better. Our combined culture is the driver not those we vote into office. Sadly, our people are conditioned to respond to conditioning, self desires, hype and image and not to seek out the truth supporting life issues. Our president has and is lieing, so is Congress on every front. Take one real issue: energy: America has more than saudi’s that will serve us for decades++. It is not usable because a law stops it drilling or use. It does not take 10 years because today we drill at 7,200 feet per day with average land depth being accessable in one week, with offshore being around one month and we already have infrastructure required. Chevron suied government for deliberate delay preventing them from putting into production one of the largest natural gas reserves in the world just offshore in the gulf. They won the suite but extraction and expansion is held up due to another congressional law. Offshore to the west, CA, an oil rig has one pipe into another vast American oil resource pumping around 200+ million Bar. as presented by Fox news. But, it has 5 or 6 more slots available to go into the oil resource that is being prevented by congressional laws. California needs money, use our oil to get out. America needs money to pay china our loans, use our oil. American needs to stop dependence and shipping 950 billion dollars yearly to other countries for energy, use our oil – dedicate it to our use first – build three refineries for our fuel – resulting in a price around $1.70 a gal. including taxes – sell a little more to the world to pay for innovation in altenatie energy, complete the hydrogen GM almost finished needing no oil, and building of nuclear electricity as the current oil rich countries are doing. No lie, in three to four years with American determination the USA would be debit free and have low employment again. Businesss and manufacturing would return here because there would be no reason for 38% business tax as now and low energy costs would produce a very low price for the products. Business tax should be set and frozen for 15 years at around 10% a global low number. Because it is not the money from the business which is needed it is jobs for everyone and return on investment for individuals where a reasonable set income tax will generate any short fall to the Treasury. This is proven financial fact. I have researched this for a long time and what I have stated is fact not half truths. This bill will drain the wealth out of every american, their family and business to do only one thing which is to grow government and dependence on government: Welcome the ruling class and czars who made it in using color and economic class warfare resulting in a place where all will suffer eather directly or indirectly. Serving: of the people by the people and for the people. No term limits = not of the people but by a few, for the people = for what a few will they want to give to the people not the peoples will. FACT.

    • Gary, the Heritage Foundation is a think tank filled with morons. You should join them, you would fit right in. The Heritage Foundation stated that the Clean Air Act would ruin the country. They were proven wrong big time.

  19. Since when does taxing a company and/or charging them penalties for releasing co2 help the environment? I guess this will make them pollute less? Co2 being called pollution is stupid. We can already convert cars, homes, etc. into non fossil fuel ready structures. Why do this? I think science has proven that co2 is an important element to sustain life. One part carbon and Two parts Oxygen wow! That’s a deadly mix.

  20. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_dioxide

  21. Thank God there is someone in Washington with a brian. Thank all 212 members that voted NO!

  22. Boo to barack the debt pres, socialist, bill aires like, pushing policies that will weaken and are weakening our country, do you think china will be doing a cap and trade bill, no, they have laxed their laws because this kind of legislation kills jobs and makes the poor poorer, it will not effect “big oil” they way cool aid drinking libs think it will, ya know i like seeing stupid people being taught a lesson but in this case it will effect everyone so i will say “i told ya so” oh yea did you hear about the green energy guys testing the “new” technology in alaska well i think this is very funny thier plan was to sail around the world well their sails failed, their solar failed they were rescrued by a US oil tanker lol, GREEN ENERGY unpractical, not even rounding the corner, expensive, will NOT create half as many jobs and you have been lead to believe, another thing co2 is NOT bad, we are made from CARBON!! flipping wachos IM NOT FALLING FOR IT, GO POUND SAND

  23. Thanks to all who voted NO!

I am very disappointed about HR 2454: American Clean Energy
and Security Act, which barely passed 219 to 212 in the House.

If this bill is passed into law it will be a slap in the face of every American. It will raise our energy taxes and kill jobs: DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY AMERICANS DEPEND ON THE PRODUCTION AND USE OF COAL AND OIL FOR INCOME? DO YOU REALLY THINK THE JOB LOSSES FROM COOL AND OIL WILL BE OFFSET BY CLEAN ENERGY SOURCES? I have visited solar and wind generators and there isn’t a soul around, once in place no one is needed to be hired to daily attend them.

AND what percentage does solar and wind add to our power grid, less than 2%. We will all have to put solar panels on our roofs and wind generators in our backyards; BUILD MORE NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS!

YES, we need clean energy, but we need to be weaned off coal, oil and natural gas incrementally with incentives, not by taxing us to death for their use. Heres an idea, build some clean nuclear power plants, PLEASE!

44 Democrats voted NO to this bill, they understand! If passed into law HR 2454 will raise our energy taxes, our electric bills and the unemployment rate!

  24. I would like to talk to the writer who wrote this article. Mrs./Ms. Bernal, if you are reading this, I challenge you to a debate on your article.

I am literally laughing at how much fail there is in this article. This person must be the most ignorant person on the face of the earth. I could write an article a mile long on all of the reasons this bill is bad, and how it will not actually help the environment – just help the pockets of politicians who have investments in energy companies – people like Nancy Pelosi, Al Gore, and Edward Markey who conveniently wrote the bill.

    • Matt, I challenge you to write your reasons this bill is bad. I would love to read what the most ignorant person on the face of the earth has to say. Maybe you should stick to a subject that know something about stupidity.

  25. I have a suggestion for all you good Republicans, go to Argentina with Gov. Sanford! You are all a bunch of right wing morons that deserve Rush, Cheney and Newt.

    • Wake up and do your homework. I don’t care which side of the political fence you stand. These idiots voted for a bill that had not even been written! They owe us, the American citizens, to do the job they were elected to do. After all, they work for us – not the other way around. Look into the details of this bill and you will find things that will scare you. Did you know that they will have the right to inspect your home to make sure it’s green before you are ALLOWED to sell it? This could mean updating windows, appliances, and any other “problems” they find. No thanks to that. What does that have to do with “saving” the environment (one which doesn’t need saving – again do you homework).

  26. I hear they found this stuff that the earth is full of; it’s costs less than and is many times more efficient than any other energy source. The US has a 100 year supply on it’s own soil or just offshore. Some say it can be produced with almost no chance of negative enviormental impact ; imagine drill rigs 80 miles off shore pumping the stuff for 30 years, surviving hurricane after hurricane without a single significant spill, cars going 40 miles in 30 minutes on one gallon of the stuff for $ 2.50. Less air pollution produced in 50 years than a small volcanic eruption… This can’t be true!

  27. What exactly are “clean energy jobs” ?
    Do the pay enough to support a family of 4 (75 – 100k) ?
Can I get one before I loose my home? (layed off in Fla.)
