Obama’s Surprise Nobel Peace Win Fuels Confusion And Fury From The Fright Wing

No doubt it wasn’t their intention but the Noble Prize Committee just fed blowhard talker Rush Limbaugh enough red meat to last long after the holiday weekend.

After learning that President Barack Obama had won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize—a feat that confounds even his supporters and took the White House by surprise—Limbaugh labeled it a “ greater embarrassment than losing the Olympics.”

“This fully exposes the illusion that is Barack Obama,” Limbaugh wrote via e-mail to the web site POLITICO. “And with this ‘award’ the elites of the world are urging Obama the MAN OF PEACE to not do the surge in Afghanistan, to not take action against Iran and its nuclear program and to basically continue his intentions to emasculate the United States.” With one more bloviation for the road, Limbaugh added: “They love a weakened, neutered U.S., and this is their way of promoting that concept. I think God has a great sense of humor, too.”

President Obama offered humility as he accepted the Award in a brief statement from the Rose Garden. He acknowledged he had not earned the Award for his achievements, but accepted it on behalf of the “aspirations” for peace among all nations.

He joked that his daughters reminded him that today was also their dog Bo’s birthday and a three day weekend was looming. “Having kids keeps things in perspective,” he mused.

Even the mainstream press is finding it difficult to grapple with the decision. “I predict he will basically find a way to turn it down, “ said Time’s Mark Halperin during the early Morning Joe on MSNBC, hours before Obama did accept the prize. “I don’t think he’ll embrace it because there is no upside.”

“The upside is the Nobel Prize Committee that has had suspect selections in the past, just befuddled a lot of people across the world,” added host Joe Scarborough, a former Republican congressman from Florida, who has evolved into an independent commentator, siding at times, with both Republicans and Democrats.

  1. ARE THEY SERIOUS????? I am UN-FREAKIN’-DONE!!!!!!! They give a puke like Obama a freaking Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in diplomacy!!! Efforts in diplomacy????? WHAT DIPLOMACY????????? Funny, Ronald Reagan never received the medal for peace for his TRUE efforts of diplomacy in the cold war!!! Hey! Maybe they’ll give Castro one before he drops dead, too – too bad Stalin’s gone!

  2. Not just the right wing. I’m a liberal and I do not think that he deserves to win the noble peace prize. He hasn’t accomplished anything and his progress in diplomacy has not outshine most other presidents. He should not be ranked with people like Nelson Mandela.
