Powerful Pro-Public Option TV Ad Targets Reid’s State

reidstrong

A new powerful ad by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee is airing in Nevada — Harry Reid’s state. The ad profiles Lee Slaughter, a nurse from Las Vegas who is struggling because of the lack of appropriate health care. Towards the end of the ad she says that she wants a public option.

“Insurance companies cannot be trusted with our lives,” Slaughter says in her soft voice. “Nevadans want the choice of a public option.”

The move to air this ad in Nevada puts direct pressure on Senator Reid who is facing a tough re-election. He will need every Democrat vote in the state to win.

Reid is currently in charge of combining the health care bill from the HELP Committee and the Finance Committee. The HELP committee’s bill is the only one that includes a public option.

Progressives and left-leaning Americans have been calling for a public option even before the health care debate became mainstream. In the video, Slaughter (a swing voter) says that in 2010 she will only be voting on one issue: “I’m watching to see if Harry Reid is strong.”

According to the ad, 52 percent of Nevadans favor a public option compared to 40 percent who oppose it. Nationally, most Americans also support a public option, thus debunking conservative polls from the Rasmussen Daily Report which inaccurately claims that only a small percentage of Americans support a public option.

  4. So wait, you referenced an actual poll, “Rasmussen Daily Report” and you claim it’s debunked by saying “Nationally, most Americans also support a public option”….What poll are you referring too? It makes you look foolish to debunk something by just making a claim and not putting up the supporting evidence….

  8. If you are going to represent nursing then maybe you ought to be a nurse. Last I checked, you were only a CNA in the state of Nevada and you didn’t practice nursing for the last 19 years. Gee what credibility you have for this commercial since you misrepresented yourself.
