Well, I would be pleased if losing this pivotal Senate race finally made progressives wake back up. Right now the very tiny, but extremely vocal minority of right wingnut Tea Bag partiers are the only ones energized. We have a chance to not only minimize midterm losses, but actually make modest gains if everyone gets off of their duffs, starts going on the attack, and stays united.

Does anyone else see the irony in someone named liberty telling a senator to get into step with a party?

btw, I agree we need viable opponents all around the country, I just would say that perhaps party politics is not a democracy?

If party loyalty is too much for him he should get out of politics. The Republicans won’t trust him and Democrats would rather see this turncoat disappear.
This is true wheather this story is accurate or not. He is an embarrasment to Nebraska and this country. We need a primary opponent NOW.

The quote this story is based on is completely inaccurate. When I spoke with the writer I did not say that Senator Nelson is pleased with the results of the Massachusetts race. He has not said he’s pleased and I did not suggest that he is. Senator Nelson has repeatedly said that the results should be a wake up call for Washington to start working much more on a bipartisan basis for the good of the American people.

Note to headline writer: The Blue Dogs are a House-only voting bloc — the group does not include senators. While Nelson’s views may arguably fall into the same part of the political spectrum as many House Blue Dogs, it’s not accurate to describe him as one of their members.

Nelson is nothing more than a political hack who got caught. He sold his vote to Harry Reid in exchange for MY TAXPAYER MONEY. Money that our children and our grandchildren will be forced to pay interest on for the remainder of the century. This is political prostitution. Ben Nelson is a political whore. Pure and Simple. He doesn’t deserve to have the people forget. I’m certain he wishes the Corn Husker Kickback would disappear. A sad example of selling your political soul to the Devil. The people of Nebraska are stunned. He will not survive the next election.

This response from Nelson is no surprise. What exactly is the difference between a Blue Dog Dem and a Republican? I know Bayh & Lieberman want the Dems to ‘Play more to the middle.,” but if they squueze in any tighter, they may as well change their mascot to the sardine. You quoted Ted Kennedy in last night’s article: “If Democrats run for cover, if we become the opposition, we will lose and deserve to lose.” Democrats, take heed, please.
