All well intentioned historians have recognized already the Armenian Genocide; 39 US states recognize the Armenian Genocide; the UN recognizes the Armenian Genocide. So there is nothing left for the historians to discuss. The only thing left is for the Turks to reflect on the genocide of their countrymen.
There is a practical benefit for Turks to recognize the Armenian Genocide. It may help turkey to realize the pain of others. Until this realization comes to fruition, Turkey will continue its genocidical tendencies by occupying the tiny island nation of Cyprus or by suppressing their countrymen Kurds.
All the Best

The genocide is a historical fact. Here is what the US Ambassador to Turkey at the time said: “The gendarmes would bastinado their Armenian victim until he fainted; they would then revive him by sprinkling water on his face and begin again. If this did not succeed in bringing their victim to terms, they had numerous other methods of persuasion. They would pull out his eyebrows and beard almost hair by hair; they would extract his finger nails and toe nails; they would apply red-hot irons to his breast, tear off his flesh with red-hot pincers, and then pour boiled butter into the wounds. In some cases the gendarmes would nail hands and feet to pieces of wood---evidently in imitation of the Crucifixion, and then, while the sufferer writhed in his agony, they would cry: " Now let your Christ come and help you!”
Can the genocide deniers elaborate on the fact that now Turkey is 99% Muslim? What happened to the millions of Armenian, Greek, and Assyrian Christians that were leaving in Asia Minor before the Genocides?

I find it disgusting that u.s. military conquests and special interests determine weather or not the measure will be supported. Essentially this long contested measure is simply seeking "recognition." So much debate and energy arguing over something that tragically did indeed occur, regardless of foreign policy, diplocmatic backscratching or using airstrips to refuel and restock bombs. Such irony that a current war influences the historical identity of a past war.

Very good point about "recognizing" the genocide of the Native Americans.

Such a warring nation.... will the U.S government ever learn or change?

Those who do not recognize and understand it, are condemned to repeat I. Yes, we should recognize, review, and learn from historical events. There is nothing to be gained by ignoring history.

I find this interesting... I was taught about the Armenian genocide. There is a wealth of information available about it. I'm not aware of anyone in this country 'denying' the atrocities, so... What is actually accomplished by the House 'recognizing' this? Are we going to recognize our genocide of the Native Americans? Lets start recognizing things.

This Genocide was so successful that many eastern Turkish cities and area’s that enjoyed healthy Christian populations -- before the Genocide-- (sometimes even a majority) have NONE today.

The Turkish Ottoman’s were losing the war in Europe to Christian countries, and they needed money to fund the war, so they took their revenge on their local Christian Minority, and stole their assets and wealth.

Not only many Christian villages were completely wiped-out, but also, the Gov’t of Turkey went into a nationwide policy to change the Genocide-effected Villages' and small towns' original names to cover the secret criminal policy.

Facts are facts – compare the pre & post Genocide maps and check the pre and post Turkish/Ottoman Census reports. They even changed the name of the country.

I notice turk that you mention the so called hodjali massacre. I am sure you are very aware that the Azeri government used pictures from the Bosnian conflict for propaganda purposes. Why don't you do some research first. You are not convincing anyone. The turkish people have a horrendous and barbaric history. One which is well documented which is why you have a problem with the Armenians, Kurds, Bulgarian, Greeks, Cypriots, Assyrians, Romanians......

You need to accept your barbaric history and apologise and make reparations for it.

we, as citizens of turkish republic, appreciate the effort for alliance between turkey and u.s.; from this point, we will not expect and perform any kind of action against or towards the u.s. thanks to the folks who expected the historians to resolve this issue. once again we understood that "there are no friends of turks other than turks..."
on the other hand, i saw that there's a quotation from adolf hitler, he was one of the enemies of the us. how come you didn't mention the genocide of hodjali (1960-1993) in azerbaijan? by the way instead of creating a commision and research "historically" the issue, judging the turkish nations for this issue was meaningless and foolish. as a turkish citizen, as i have declared above, i will never forget this unfairness.
A former turkish general once declared that "nato is over" (2 or 3 years ago) and also "one minute" action from the prime minister, and in 1st of march 2003 we didn't allow the us forces to use our bases while they were invading iraqi soil,... those situations clearly show that alliance of turkey and the us was almost over in 2003. sooner or later (by the diaspora) the committee would recognize the issue, let's hope that the senate leaves the issue to the historians instead of finding the guilt without any historical research?!
Thanks for sharing this issue on your blog. people are reading different kinds of news on this site, i'd ask only for objectivity, nothing more.

Kind regards.
