Obama Fumes Over Oil Spill
Sounding angrier than he’s been in a long time, President Obama decisively addressed the on-going drama and “blame game” that has played out in the aftermath of the catastrophic BP Oil spill. “The most important thing is to stop the leak… what really matters there is oil leaking And we need to stop it and we need to stop it as quickly as possible, ” he said.
He offered his strongest admonishment of the oil industry. “Companies like BP who are responsible need to pay for the response effort….not the taxpayers.” Obama added his dismay over watching BP, Halliburton and other oil companies trip over themselves to deflect blame. “I’m sure the American people weren’t impressed. And I wasn’t either.”
Obama displayed a “cool” anger over the “cozy relationship” between the oil industry and the federal government. He instructed Interior Secretary Ken Salazar to mount an investigation and ordered immediate inspections. He also announced a plan to close loopholes that have allowed oil companies to circumvent regulations. “Trust but verify,” Obama said.
“This is a responsibility that we all share. I will not tolerate any more finger pointing or irresponsibility.”
“It’s our job to make sure this kind of mess doesn’t happen again.”
Hope Dick Cheney gets cable in his undisclosed location.

Well, this certainly impressed me. But we’ll have to wait and see if there are teeth in Obama’s remarks, here, or if this is largely just political theatre.
Not impressed with his ranting. Do something about it! Help!! Can’t blame Bush for this one.
Maybe not. But Dick Cheney’s got some explaining to do.
