Robert Klein’s “Unfair & Unbalanced” Countdown
An acapella snippet from “Hymn for America” is just one highlight from Keith Olbermann’s interview with Robert Klein. The comedian stopped by “Countdown” last Friday to promote his HBO comedy special “Unfair & Unbalanced.” Both the interview and the show, Klein’s ninth special for the cable outlet, do not disappoint.
Most of the progressive political prey are subjected to Klein’s quick-trigger skewer. Among the lambasted: Bill Clinton ( really, must we? But it’s funny), Mark Sanford, Larry Craig, John McCain, Sarah Palin, Dan Quayle, John Ensign, even Obama doesn’t escape the comic’s grip unscathed.
Klein also offers observations on aging, with a particularly funny bit about scoring drugs ( Lipitor and Viagra) at a Steely Dan concert. And fans will dig his signature musical numbers, especially the ones about gay marriage and medical marijuana. An odd, weak ending shouldn’t detract from a potent hour with a man who is still one of America’s sharpest political and observational comedians.
I know I sound like an HBO shill ( if only); the truth is the cable giant just happens to offer some of the best entertainment on TV these days. Robert Klein’s “Unfair & Unbalanced” airs on HBO all month. See the HBO website for schedule.
