VIDEO: Twin Bill: Maher vs. O’Reilly
Bill O’Reilly is like a punch-drunk fighter: he takes one sharp jibe from the left, and keeps coming back for more. Or Maher.
Last week Jon Stewart beat Bill O at his own game. Wednesday, he aired part one of his Bill Maher interview. O’Reilly, by the way, is a self-anointed independent, but claims to hold himself above the political fray are like most things on Fox News: simply ludicrous.
Not surprisingly, Maher skewered Bill O as the bloviator whipped out the usual GOP talking points. He slammed Obama’s approval rating and Maher put it in perspective: “He’s about where Clinton and Reagan were, a little higher than where they were in their first administrations…. there’s a lot of disinformation out there. And the lion’s share of the blame goes to the Democrats. They don’t brag about their accomplishments.”
Maher expertly crushed each of Bill O’s predictable shots on Obama’s aloof style, government spending, crazy liberals.
Always the suave commentator, Maher remained calm and cool, playing thoughtful and reasonable to Bill O’s bombasity.
Bill O: Do you believe conservatives are all nasty, racist people? is that your outlook?
Maher: No, not entirely. People are individuals. But I think in general, yes, they’re more selfish and they’re more likely to advocate policies that serve their own interest and don’t think about anyone else.
Bill O asked Maher how he became so liberal.
Maher, claiming he’s held the same position offered, “At some point in the last twenty years, the left moved to the center and the right moved into a mental institution.”
Maher handily won the first round. Stay tuned for part two.
