VIDEO: Tom Paxton Takes on Tucson Tragedy In Powerful New Song
Many of us were disappointed–and in the wake of the Tucson tragedy, even shocked–that President Obama didn’t address gun control reforms in his State of the Union speech. The cultural cacophony may have focused on the use of dangerous rhetoric, but the frightening reality is the NRA fueled gun culture has stripped gun control laws of so many essential safeguards. Even after the horrifying rampage, Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy remains, largely, the lone voice for legislative action against the powerful gun lobby.
Tom Paxton, the great American folk singer-songwriter offers that rare gem: a beautiful political folk song. In his new song, “What If, No Matter,” he asks, “What if, no matter how angry he was, how outraged he was, how murderous he was, he couldn’t lay hands on a gun?”
What will it take, really, for the United States, its citizens and its representatives to wake up and change laws that would, most certainly, save lives? From their cold, dead hands, indeed!

I agree with you 100% – I was also disappointed that the President didn’t mention changes in gun control in his State of the Union speech. It is my understanding that he is going to do so in a speech at a later date. We have got to keep pushing for these changes until they come to be – it will indeed save many, many lives. Your article keeps this very important matter out there for changes in gun control.
