UK Parliament: Money, MPs And Transparency

House of Commons

House of Commons

Following the scandals of misappropriations of public funds by MPs to cover personal expenses, the British Parliament  just released today  extensive documents on MPs salaries and allowances.

The current  annual salary for an MP is 64,766 British Pounds.

In addition, MPs receive allowances to cover the costs of running an office, employing staff and having somewhere to live in London as well as in their own constituency.

More than a million printed documents and receipts have been scanned to compute this enormous amount of data. The information just became available for the public on line.

The release of the document followed a leak published by an English newspaper, a lot of questions are still in limbo. It is unlikely to make the outrage go away and fully calm the British public opinion.

This is an indemized, for each MP, allowance expenditures spread sheet  from April 2007 to March 2008.
