Is The War In Afghanistan ‘Worth The Effort’?

At least it is for Vice President Joe Biden, he made the statement during his European trip. Biden’s goal is obviously to shore up support for the Afghan war in Europe, and especially in the UK. The VP stayed on message, without any major gaffe, and he reiterated the Obama administration rationale for the new strategy in the conflict.

Community Rallies Behind Imprisoned Ex-Gang Leader

A Los Angeles judge has delayed a decision on whether to allow bail for gang intervention leader and peacemaker, Alex Sanchez. Sanchez, a former gang member of the notorious Salvadoran gang “MS-13,” faces federal conspiracy charges for plotting to kill reputed gang leader Walter Lacinos, who was found murdered in El Salvador three years ago.

Employee Free Choice Act On Life Support

Negotiations among Democrats on the Employee Free Choice Act are stalled in the Senate. The key Democrat in charge of negotiations admits they have been unable to find ways to move forward. Iowa Senator Tom Harkin is the lead negotiator. He reluctantly conceded that negotiations have “been put on hold for an indefinite period of time.”

How Did The Banks Used The TARP Funds? “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”

Today, the Committee On Oversight and Government Reform is holding a hearing titled: “Following the money: Report of the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP).” Neil Barofsky, the Special Inspector General, will release his 3RD report to Congress and present his findings and audit report on how recipients have used TARP funds. So far, the Treasury has already committed $643 billion and spent $441 billion under the program.
