War Criminal Cheney Should Be On Trial Not Parading On TV
By Gilbert Mercier NEWS JUNKIE POST
Feb 14, 2010 at 6:25 pmToday is Valentines Day, V day for short, the day of love. But instead of “spreading love”, Dick Cheney- the de facto leader of the GOP- was spewing his venom of fear mongering on ABC News. Cheney and his former criminal associate, Karl Rove, have being hammering the same rusty nail, mainly on Fox News, for almost a year. The message is simple: The Obama administration is “soft on America’s enemies and on terrorists and is not keeping the country safe”. Cheney still claims that the illegal methods such as torture and rendition were the right way to fight the “war on terror”.
Of course this is disinformation at its best, it could not be any further from the truth. As matter of fact, and unfortunately, the Obama administration has so far pursued similar foreign policies than the Bush administration. I would like to know if the residents of Marjah in Afghanistan, which are currently under the assault of General McChrystal’s mighty forces, think that the Obama administration is soft, warm and fuzzy.
The Obama administration has never put back the velvet glove on top of the steel hand as far as Afghanistan or Pakistan are concerned. As matter of fact it is the exact opposite, and President Obama’s promises of “softer power” abroad never materialized. But until today, they committed the mistake to “play nice” with the former administration. May be a shift happened today in the way the Obama administration is dealing with the opposition at home.
Vice President Joe Biden Finally Takes off The Glove
And it is about time. VP Biden did just that on NBC’s “Meet The Press” today. Biden said that Cheney was “factually, substantively wrong” about his accusations regarding the Obama administration being soft on terrorists. Biden added that Cheney is either “misinformed or he is misinforming”.
“We have eliminated 12 of their top 20 people. We have taken out 100 of their associates. They are in fact not able to do anything remotely like they were in the past. They are on the run. I don’t know where Dick Cheney has been. Look it is one thing to criticize; it is another thing to sort of rewrite history. What is he talking about?” said VP Biden on “Meet The Press”.
A good Vice President is supposed to be the attack dog for the President. This is precisely what Joe Biden finally did today, and it should have been done a long time ago. In 2010, the GOP, and its real boss Dick Cheney, will make the argument of the Obama administration being “soft on terror” as the corner stone of their campaign. I think it is time for Dick Cheney to go back to an “undisclosed location” of his choice or face the prosecution he deserves for war crimes.
